Paul’s third missionary journey begins with Acts 19:23. The
previous two verses tell us only briefly that he went to
Jerusalem, then to Antioch, then began his third journey. He
traveled through the places of his previous ministries and
made his way to Ephesus. His preaching of the gospel was
attended by miracles and great success, but when success
comes so does opposition. The photo shows the Arcadian
Way, looking toward what used to be the harbor from near the
theater where Paul was almost mobbed. Ephesus was an
important Christian center and several significant remains exist,
especially the tomb of the Apostle John, which probably is
authentic, and the house where Jesus’ mother lived, which
probably is not.
