Derbe is roughly another 25 miles south of Lystra. It also is still
unexcavated. Small ruins can be seen on either side of the
road that cuts through the mound, called Devri Sehri. The
gospel was well received here. Gaius, a later travel companion
of Paul’s, was from Derbe. Derbe was the last recorded stop of
the first missionary journey. Paul and Barnabas retraced their
steps to confirm the converts in the previous cities (Acts
14:21-26). In verse 25 we learn that the missionaries this time at
least preached the gospel in Perga. Then they sailed from
Attalia back to Antioch of Syria.
